Koodasha Movie Review
Review: With very little fanfare, Baburaj, the bad guy turned comic of the silver screen celebrates his 25 years in Malayalam cinema with Koodasha by the playing the meaty role of its protagonist. Written and directed by debutante Dinu Thomas Eelan, Koodasha is a psychological thriller surrounding the time tested and beaten down theme of violence against women.
Kallokkaran Joy is a quotation goonda who yearns to turn a new leaf but his past keeps calling him back. Koodasha is about how a personal tragedy spirals his life and he tries to piece it back.
With well crafted frames and visuals, Faisal V Khalid cranks the camera for Koodasha. The film has one song which keeps to the theme. Harinarayan does a good job with the lyrics and Vishnu Mohan Sithara with the music.
Without doubt Kallokkaran Joy had all the hallmarks of being a once in a lifetime character for Baburaj. However, as it turns out the role if far too meaty for the actor to bite on. Seasoned actors like Sai Kumar and Joy Mathew come and do their bit to the perfection that is expected of them, and leave. Aaryan Krishna Menon gets into the bad boy skin with ease, though he looks nothing like the part. The scattered timeline is disorienting to begin with. Though the psychological thriller twist balances it to a certain extent, the narrative is still quite shaky. This is a story that has been told umpteen number of times in all ways possible. Sadly, Koodasha has nothing new to offer in terms of narration or presentation.
