Marjaavaan Review

In Marjaavaan, which is anything but a film to die for, writer-director Milap Milan Zaveri whips up a stale masala concoction that transports the audience right back to a Bollywood era gone by. The turgid thriller is set in the Mumbai underworld, a fact that is grandly announced via a voiceover at the very outset, but neither the situations nor the locales in which the predictable action unfolds look remotely real. While the

Marjaavaan Box Office Collection

film seeks to draw sustenance from its high body count amid unbridled bravado and bloodshed, none of the key characters in the distended plot is in danger of being caught dead doing or saying anything that could be deemed to be believable. The film is so overblown that even when the men engaged in fierce battle let off steam through the means of putrid punchlines, they only sound like pipsqueaks trying to pump up the volume amid all the rain and thunder that accompanies the big action set pieces. The screenplay operates under the impression that the more characters with disabilities that you can cram the narrative with, the better.

The heroine, an uprooted Kashmir ki kali, is deprived of the faculty of speech. A young boy who is friends with the male protagonist has a stutter. And the baddie is three feet nothing, which is one of the reasons why he rails against the world. But do not let all this fool you: Marjaavaan has no real empathy for people who are born different and have to grapple with difficult issues in the face of contempt and unsolicited commiseration. Marjaavaan is the sort of movie that has no qualms about burying itself under a mountain Marjaavaan Movie Review, Latest updateof cliches. There is a gang lord, Narayan Anna (Nasser), who runs a water mafia and a prostitution ring. There is Raghu (Sidharth Malhotra), a foundling the don has groomed to be his invincible and trusted hitman. I belong to the gutters, the young man confesses at one point. He doesn’t have to say it: the film, too belongs right there. The self-important gangster’s son, Vishnu (Riteish Deshmukh), completes a deadly trio that is entrusted with propelling the film forward. Propel the film they do, but rarely forward. Raghu says to Vishnu: you are the warriors (successor), I am a lawyer (orphan). But the latter, aggrieved to the
core because of the lack of inches, has his own twisted take on his own life. Vishnu Anna, more importantly, has a huge chip on his shoulders on account of the neglect that he faces from his father. He loses no opportunity to look for ways to settle scores with the usurper, but what is meant to be an intense battle royale between two disparate men peters out into a predictable, by-the-numbers confrontation with a tame culmination. That is only one of the two triangles that constitute the narrative crux of Marjaavaan.

The other involves Raghu, a mute Kashmiri girl Zoya (Tara Sutaria, who does a good job of looking pretty and unruffled amid the pandemonium) whose constant companion verbalizes her thoughts and gestures for the benefit of the hero and his cohorts, and Aarzoo (Rakul Preet Singh in an extended cameo that
Marjaavaan Movie Review, Latest updateoutstrips the footage accorded to the lead actress), the star dancer in nightclub run by Raghu’s criminal benefactor. As the hero’s love with Zoya, who conveniently has no trouble with hearing and responding to music, blossoms, Aarzoo wonders if her love for the hero will ever be reciprocated in the truest sense. Both the girls, like the man that they love, are driven by the purest of motives. Zoya is a social activist of sorts determined to take a bunch of slum kids to the Valley for a music contest. Aarzoo, in turn, thinks nothing of standing by for her fortunes to turn.

They do. A twist before the intermission – it could well have been the ending of the film – is a pretext for another 70 minutes of mayhem on the screen as Raghu, transformed by Zoya’s pulchritude and piety, proceeds to undo all the wrongs that he does in the first half. Zaveri crams the soundtrack of the film with bombastic dialogues that hark back to the C-grade movies of an earlier decade. What worked then sounds oddly off-key at the end of the second decade of a new millennium. Sidharth Malhotra has to do a great Marjaavaan Box Office Collectiondeal of heavy lifting. The strain shows. Riteish Deshmukh, aided by visual effects to turn into an evil midget, seems far more at ease with the lines he spouts. His dialogues are peppered with “What is the height of…? questions. You wait for the answers. They are never half as startling as the writer thinks they are. In a pre-interval action scene, Vishnu asks bystanders: What is the height of deewaangi (madness)? The answer is a spectacular PJ that sums up the nature of the film. To paraphrase the villain’s version: a lover asks his sweetheart whether she loves him. The girl laughs: Ha ha ha ha… See, the besotted man says, she said yes four times.

Ulta Movie Review

‘These are days when a woman has to have another woman’s back,’ Lekshmiamma (KPAC Lalitha) says strikingly to give confidence to a team of women so that they are not shattered by an attack that she faced at night. Ulta looks at the plight of women and the debate on women’s empowerment. Fictional land Ponnapuram would be a dream village for any woman who wishes to see a place run by women. They control every sector in the village and their power haunts the men here. The village seems to have a men versus woman mentality, under the leadership of Purushothaman, played by Ramesh Pisharody, and women grouped under his wife Pournami, played by Anusree. The height of Purushothaman’s anti-women sentiment is revealed when he cries out ‘ente acha’ instead of ‘ammae’ when a coconut falls on his head. Purushothaman, with his friends, played by actors Binu Adimali, Jaffer Idukki, Muhammed Perambra and Sinoj Varghese, are on a mission to end the women’s rule of Poonnapuram. The twist comes when Pournami hires Chandru (Gokul Suresh) as a martial arts teacher for the women in the village after Pournami and her sister Parvathy (Prayaga Martin) are also attacked one night. However, things don’t rest easy with that move. Will the women’s security be under threat? Gokul Suresh and Prayaga Martin bring the romantic element to the film.

The lovey-dovey couple upsets life in Ponnapuram village. The opening song, Keralamanante Naadu, sung by Vaikom Vijayalakshmi, establishes how self-sufficient the women are. The film continues to show how they can overpower men. However, the second half becomes predictable with the entry of new characters, including Kalabhavan Shahjon, and Siddique who plays a policeman. Though the first half emphasises women’s empowerment, the second half talks about how women should not become egoistic against men, and how the genders should work together, which seems sane advice from director Suresh Poduval. The film is action packed, with moments of humour by Jaffer Idukki, Thesni Khan, Surabhi Lekshmi and Sethulekshmi.

The director who portrayed Chandru as a martial arts trainer for the women in the village seems to have forgotten about this later. The idea that a woman should fight for another woman also fizzles out. The makers could have also given some action sequences to Anusree or Prayaga, to convey the message that woman power cannot be suppressed. But the fun-filled entertainment, with good songs by Gopi Sundar, does not bore you till the end.

Munthiri Monchan Rating

A plot with quite a few couples in love strewn all over at different junctures, Munthiri Monchan presents a story that aspires to be a thrilling rom com. Some decent melodies are also planted at various points to add zing to the tale and help the audience root for the love stories. Does this help present an engaging romantic tale? Vivek (Manesh Krishnan) is on a mission to impress Ima (Deepika Anil), and she tires a bit to play the ‘hard to get.’ Meanwhile, during a train journey, Vivek’s paths cross with that of Deepika ( Kairavi Thakkar) and as fate would have it, a series of events lead to them undertaking the trip together.

At the core of this film is an ambition to narrate a romantic tale through couples at different junctures in their love life. There is a duo right in the stage of wooing, another, all set to take their relationship to the next level, a couple who are expecting and a husband and wife who are in the twilight of their life. But, the characters are underwritten and the narrative is quite outdated for today’s audience. The jumble of love stories is lazily interlinked and it’s tough to look beyond the dullness that gets created for this reason. Comedy too falls flat whenever tried. The performances of the young lead actors are a little too raw as well, and this affects the film’s entertainment quotient quite a bit.

The characters of those like Innocent and Salim Kumar too aren’t fleshed out well enough to help the film. Those who have unconditional love for romcoms and would want to see Aaranyakam stars Devan and Saleema together again on the big screen, though in a very short sequence, might find something interesting in Munthiri Monchan.

Thakkol Review

Thakkol, as the name suggests, is to travel behind the Thakkol without saying a word behind the Thakkol. Writer and director Kiran Prabhakaran, who is leaving the theater, understands that the key is not just opening the box, but also understanding some people. The film stars Indrajith and Murali Gopi as the central characters and exposes the mystery of the human mind through Christian priests. Those who seem to be cruel in the first place may never be so. This is underscored by the closing words of the film, “Cruel deeds that do good.”

The film is about Monsignor Mankunnath Pailey and Ambrose Vaz, the boy he brings with him as an altar boy. Ambrose, as an altar boy, was still with Monsignor Mankunnath Pailey. Monsignor, who kept Ambrose under his wing, never wanted to set Ambrose free. However, at the recommendation of Clement, who plays Ranji Panicker, the bishop appoints Ambrose as vicar of the parish church where he was born. His father’s decision to deliver to Ambrose was to escape Monsignor’s hand. However, Clement says he has a false eye for bringing Ambrose to the church and will reveal it upon his arrival. But when it came to the new church, things were not as Ambrose intended. There, waiting for Ambrose Sachsen was a key that was not down. The film is a journey behind it.

Monsignor Mankunnath Pailei plays Murali Gopi and Ambrose plays Indrajith. Both of these characters with a lot of inner sincerity are literally awesome. Each of the actors who entered the film were small but made their characters better. Renji Panicker’s Clement is a different character in his career. Ranji Panicker has been able to improve the character by giving a variety of voices as well as just the sidewalk. Nedumudi Venu, Inia, Roni, and Sudev Nair are the other characters in the film.

Thakkol Movie ReviewThere are some great songs in the movie. The music is composed by M Jayachandran. Jayachandran’s background music is what sustains the film’s mood. The main camera of Goa and Kottayam, the film was handled by Albie. The camera reaches out to the characters’ moods rather than visual beauty.

The two-and-a-half-hour-long film takes on a rhythmic rhythm rather than the intensity of the story. So length is often a villain. If the audience is confused about which direction the film is heading until the end of the first half, there is no mistaking it. Shaji Kailas, the director, and producer who brought the film to the forefront of this complex issue, deserves its share of the film as an entertainer. Shaji Kailas Jonar’s name in the role of the producer may be the Thakkol disappointment to the audience who come to the theater expecting a Shaji Kailas Joner film.
