The spacecraft, called Chandrayaan-2, will launch in July, before landing on the lunar surface in September

India will attempt to land a spacecraft on the moon in just a few months, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has revealed.

The spacecraft, called Chandrayaan-2, will launch in July, before landing on the lunar surface in September.

ISRO tweeted: “We are ready for one of the most exciting missions, Chandrayaan-2. Launch window between July 9-16 & likely Moon-landing on Sept 6, 2019.”

Chandrayaan-2 is made up of three modules – an Orbiter, a Lander called Vikram, and a Rover called Pragyan.

In the wake of achieving the moon, the Lander will isolate from the Orbiter, and arrive on the lunar South Pole.

There, the Rover will take off from inside the Lander, before investigating the lunar surface.

In a release about the plans, ISRO explained: “The Rover will roll out for carrying out scientific experiments on the lunar surface.moon

“Instruments are also mounted on Lander and Orbiter for carrying out scientific experiments.”

This will be the second time that India has propelled a shuttle to the moon.

In 2008, ISRO propelled a shuttle to the moon, in spite of the fact that it just circling our lunar satellite, as opposed to arriving on it.
