Director Jayaraj pays tribute to T Peter, a strong leader in the fishing industry and General Secretary of the National Fish Workers’ Forum, who died of covid last day. Jayaraj reminded him on Facebook that he was a fisherman who caught people just like his name implies.

T. Peter, who lived among us as a coast guard and a storehouse of marine knowledge, is no more. As befits his name, he was a fisherman who caught men. Jayaraj notes that Peter  was there to hold the children of the sea together and fight for their rights for a lifetime.

His struggles at sea and on the coast from the 1980s to the present, and all the voices he raised for man and nature, remain an inspiration to us. Many stories have been told about his responsible leadership and reliance on the ban on trawling and on all land and sea issues and problems of the fishermen.

Kerala will never forget his role in leading the Kerala Army during the Great Flood. The theme of the film ‘Roudram’ in my Navarasa series is based on some direct experiences that took place in the wake of the great floods in Kerala in 2018. Prior to the release of the film, a special premiere was held for the Kerala Army fishermen. It was at that ceremony that they had the opportunity to meet Peter.

It was only with amazement and reverence that he heard the descriptions of the rescue operations carried out under his leadership. The film manages to entertain as well as inform. But I did not expect that sight to be the last sight. This epidemic has taken another precious life. Farewell to Uncle Peter. Tears in front of memories. Once again I submit my film in front of him and this is how Jayaraj ended the post.
