The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is an award given by the Government of India in recognition of a lifetime contribution to Indian cinema. The award has been given since 1969, the 100th birth anniversary of Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema. In 2018, Amitabh Bachchan won the award. In 1975, K.S. Shivaji Rao made his Tamil film debut with Balachander’s Apoorva Ragangal. Balachander also changed the name of Sivaji Rao to Rajinikanth. Katha Sangama, a Kannada film released in the same year, is considered to be Rajinikanth’s first film. Though Rajini considers Balachander as her guru, the director who has given impetus to the growth of this actor is SP. Muthurama. Rajini’s role in Bhuvana Oru Kelvikuri directed by Muthuraman was notable.
