Veteran performing artist Shashi Kapoor passed away in Mumbai on Monday. He was 79.
“Shashi Kapoor lapsed at 5.20 pm on December 4 at Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai,” said Dr Ram Narain, Executive chief of Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.
The Bollywood legend was admitted to Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Andheri on Sunday night, purportedly, for a chest disease treatment. The performing artist battled with the condition even in 2014, post his sidestep surgery.
Shashi Kapoor is made due by girl Sanjana Kapoor and his two children Kunal and Karan.
Child of Prithviraj Kapoor and sibling of Raj Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor, Shashi appeared with the 1961 film Dharmputra. He went ahead to show up in 116 Hindi movies. He was respected with the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 2011. In 2015, he was presented with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, making him the third individual from the Kapoor faction to get the respect, after father Prithviraj Kapoor and sibling Raj Kapoor.
Shashi and his better half Jennifer Kendal set up the Prithvi Theater in November 1978 in Mumbai. Jennifer passed on of disease in 1984.
President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi communicated sympathies over the passing of Shashi Kapoor. While President Ram Nath tweeted, “Sorry to learn of the destruction of Shashi Kapoor, understood performer, with a collection of Indian and global movies. His help for significant silver screen as a maker and critical part in the theater development in India too are treasured. Sympathies to his family #PresidentKovind,” PM Modi stated, “Shashi Kapoor’s adaptability could be found in his motion pictures and additionally in theater, which he advanced with awesome enthusiasm. His splendid acting will be associated with ages to come. Disheartened by his destruction. Sympathies to his family and admirers.”
