Happy, a timid Sardar living in Patiala, finds his life turned upside down when he falls in love with Mary, a Malayali Knanaya Christian girl. He wins her heart and both sets of parents agree to the wedding. But there`s a catch: his folks want a Punjabi Shaadi and Mary`s father is adamant about having a Christian wedding. Can he pull this off, especially since his three co-brothers (a Hindu, a Muslim and a Communist) are out to wreck his plans?

to parents who stick to their guns, while youngsters are unconcerned about region and religion. But cultural differences in love stories are also fertile ground for comedy if executed well. Does Happy Sardar tap this well? Punjabi-Malayali boy Happy Singh (Kalidas) and Mary (Merin Philip), a Knanaya girl fall in love. But then comes the trickiest part – making their families fall in love. They set out to win over the parents, but as anyone can guess, it’s no cakewalk.

The film is light and frothy in parts. Kalidas has a decent screen presence as a young Mallu Sardar. New girl Merin looks cute in her different get-ups. There are a few good jokes by Sharafudheen’s character. It’s not always that one gets to see ceremonies of communities, such as the Knanayas, on the big screen and this film shows us quite a few such interesting aspects. The styling of the characters is good and song settings are nicely done. The movie might resonate with those who have had inter-state weddings. At times, there

are also some playful digs at each other’s cultures that are enjoyable. However, something that one needs strongly in a romantic tale is a strong chemistry between the lead pair, which is sadly absent here. The film seems to neither care much about establishing why the duo are so into each other, nor does it really bother to captivate the audience. At times, the couple’s journey is even stretched to the point of extreme Bollywood-square disbelief.

Certain in-your-face, impact-less evergreen dialogues and references are tough to ignore. The parental tiffs expected in the tale are too stretched-out and overdone in certain sequences. The movie gathers its emotional heft mostly in the second half, even going to the extent of showing how the cultural hatred

spread by the older generation corrupts young minds, but not with much effect. The second half of the film also often descends into a tiring melodrama that makes one squirm in the seat, waiting for the ending. The songs only serve to slacken the pace of the screenplay which is predictable to the extent of being seriously boring. Happy Sardar might impress those who care the best about a colorful narration, even in the absence of a story with a strong spine.

Director Siddique’s movies that have worked have always had an equal mix of humour, action and sentiments. In his latest film, however, the director, who has also scripted the film has dropped the humour element in favour of more action and a patience-testing plot to pass off as a thriller. The movie’s protagonist 40-year-old Sachidanandan (Mohanlal) is just released from prison after serving a double life sentence for killing a police officer at a juvenile home. His family, however, welcomes him with open arms and within the first 30 minutes, he reveals to them that he wasn’t just serving time the past 24 years. To up the suspense quotient, Siddique has also given his protagonist a special skill that aids him in the film’s multiple action scenes that include two in the dark and one smack in the middle of a dustbowl.

Sachidanandan’s past, however, soon catches up to him and his family, and forcing him to return to the ways he didn’t want to. In the middle of all this is a police officer Vedantham IPS (Arbaaz Khan) who is on the hunt for an elusive drug boss Edwin Moses. How Sachidanandan’s, Vedantham’s and Moses’ paths cross is what the film is about, but Siddique opts to use so many tropes and misdirection techniques to get there that by the end of it, the audience could hardly care who Moses is and what his ultimate aim is. Mohanlal as Sachidanandan is dour-faced for most of the film, except for the comic scenes where he tries to observe the niceties after his life in prison. In fact, more of these scenes could have elevated the film. Arbaaz as Vedantham IPS has a powerful presence, but is underused. His parallel story seems to get lost in the mess that Sachidanandan and friends get entangled in, and the police officer becomes an apologetic footnote, at best.

The film’s leading ladies Mirnaa, Honey Rose and Gadha do their parts well in what limited scenes they have. Anoop Menon and Sarjano Khalid as Sachidanandan’s brothers Vishnu and Manu, respectively, perform decently. The comedy track from Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Tini Tom and Irshad fall flat, however. Deepak Dev’s songs in the film add a bit of energy that the film, which is 164 minutes long, desperately needed. If Siddique could have kept the run-time in check and maybe stopped short of building Sachidanandan as a superhero, the movie could have passed as a decent watch.

Pattas Review Dhanush has two roles as Patas

Pattas is a Tamil martial arts film written and directed by R. S. Durai Senthilkumar and produced by Sathya Jyothi Films. It stars Dhanush, Sneha, Mehreen Pirzada in the lead roles and Naveen Chandra as the antagonist. The film features music composed by Vivek-Mervin. It marks the second collaboration between Dhanush and director Durai Senthilkumar after Kodi. The film depicts Adimurai, an ancient martial art that was practiced by the Cholas, and existed even before Kalaripayattu. For their roles, Dhanush and Sneha underwent martial arts training prior to the commencement of the filming.

Pattas Review

Pattas is a film starring Dhanush, Sneha, and Mehrin Birzada. The film is produced by Satyajothi Films and directed by Durai Senthil Kumar. Sneha is shocked when she realistically meets Dhanush at the Nilean Kickboxing Academy run by Naveen Chandra. Who are the two? Pattas is the film that tells Naveen Chandra and their relationship.

Dhanush has two roles as Patas, Shakti and Dravia Perumal. The age difference between the two characters, including the body language, has been brought to the fore by his realistic performances. Sneha as a virgin. She has effectively played the role of a beloved woman and an affectionate mother who avenges the man who killed her husband.

Naveen Chandra as the villain. The villain who is a strong match is intimidating. Mehrin Birzada has contributed greatly to the film’s romantic episodes. KPY Satish makes the first half interesting with his innate dialogue delivery. Naser, Munishkant, and Manopala have played their part.

The Vivek-Mervin alliance and the background music was a great strength for the film. Cinematographer Om Prakash has a great story that takes place in two different periods. The manner in which the art of slavery is handled and the way it was handled in the screenplay made the film interesting. The romance scenes in the previous half weren’t that impressive. This pattas draw attention to the way the Tamil arts and cultures are described as commercial cinema.

Anjaam Pathira Movie Review and Box Office

Anjaam Pathira. In the middle of the film, Anwar (Kunchacko Boban) is addressing a class of psychology students. The discussion is about whether every creative individual in the world has some sort of deviancy. “Not necessarily,” he tells a student.

Anjaam Pathira Movie Review

It’s said that evil can manifest in anyone if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Anjaam Pathira by Midhun Manuel Thomas shows how a wave of violence gets kicked-off, with a certain unfortunate turn of events that happened in someone’s life. And how such scenarios might sometimes create unforgiving killers. Psychologist Anwar Hussain (Kunchacko Boban) gets introduced to the murder case of a policeman by his friend and cop Anil (Jinu Joseph). As he tries to connect the circumstantial clues, the situation gets complicated further with more deaths, puzzling both Anwar and the police department. How they nab the culprit and the backstories of the events form the turf of Anjaam Pathira.

Murderous psychopaths lurking in the shadows and the reasons that made them so sinister have always fascinated both movie makers and audiences alike. Anjaam Pathira gets most of the elements right to tell such a tale in the most engaging fashion – disturbing yet curiosity-triggering murders, a killer who employs gruesome techniques on victims, an ace psychological investigator, creepy masks, the dark descent in someone’s life that makes them a killer, simple, yet suspenseful development of events and a dimly lit atmosphere in which the tale unfurls. A genuine attempt to make the story as a novel yet relevant in the current scenario is also evident.

Anjaam Pathira Review

Anjaam Pathira Review

Kunchacko Boban gives the right demeanor to Anwar Hussain, as do the rest of the cast. The performances of Mathew Thomas and Indrans, though just in a few scenes, are also arresting enough for one to feel uneasy and so is the portrayal of the bad man by another prominent actor, whose name is best kept under wraps so we don’t let out any spoilers. The portrayal of the gruesome acts of the murderer is also shown without traumatizing the viewers too much. At the same time, the intro portions, which were probably woven into the larger plot intending to give us a better understanding of the developments, doesn’t seem to add much to the story. The climax sequence also isn’t as hard-hitting as one would expect, going by how the story tightens its screws till big revelations are made. Certain critical questions viewers might feel within are only answered by painting word pictures, making their effect on the story trivial. The stifling, yet enjoyable, tension that should bind one till the end in such a story is also lost, just about half an hour before the movie wraps up.

The film ties together a handful of gruesome killings to tell its story and those who have the stomach for it can find Anjaam Pathira a movie worth its running time.
