Riyadh In Saudi Arabia, there is no legal barrier for foreign men and women to stay in a hotel room even if they have no wives or husbands. The Saudi government has issued a new order for foreign tourists to avoid the existing legal barriers.

This latest order comes after Saudi Arabia recently launched a new tourist visa to attract foreigners. In Saudi Arabia, it is forbidden for both unmarried men and women to live together as the country forbids fornication. However, it is estimated that the law has now been restricted to foreigners only to attract tourists.

The easing of stringent regulations governing social interactions comes after Riyadh launched its first tourist visa scheme, as part of efforts to open up the country to foreign visitors and diversify its oil-reliant economy. The Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage posted the new requirements on Twitter on Sunday. Women will be allowed to rent hotel rooms with proof of identity or if they have a male guardian present who does have proof of identity.
