Transgender beauty queen Nitasha Biswas created history by becoming the first-ever ‘Miss Trans Queen India’ in 2017. She represented India at ‘Miss International Queen 2017’ in Thailand, which is known to be the world’s largest and most prestigious beauty pageant for International Transgenders and Transvestites.
“When I first decided to do this, I got a lot of criticism from all corners. People called me all sorts of things and questioned my sexuality and gender. They said I am a transwoman, a lesbian, a bisexual, and that is why I’m doing this,” she told.
Talking about the forthcoming contest in Thailand, Nitasha said, “This is a very big responsibility. I always wanted to empower our system and our community because that’s what is needed”.
The contest holds great importance as it was the first pageant to be hosted on a national level for transwomen after the Nalsa judgment–the landmark 2014 Supreme Court decision to declare transgender people as third gender.
